YOGA in GHANA: Bringing the Family Back Together! angelkrish.jpg

During a brief visit to the nation’s capital, the Founder of the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers (IABYT), Krishna Kaur, extended her organization’s latest focus to bring the African family back together. Last month yoga sisters, Kahlil Kuykendall, Nikki Plaskett, Yvette Thompson, Avalaura Beharry and Angelique Shofar gathered at Yoga House in the Petworth area to discuss IABYT and the upcoming Yoga Summit in Ghana. Krishna, “Mama Yogi” - nurtured us with her words of wisdom while sharing stories of her yoga trips to Africa and the relationship between Africans and African Americans. “We need to go back home (Africa) to plant the seeds that will bring the family back together”, says IABYT’s President.

The Yoga in Ghana Summit and Health Fest takes place this summer from August 2nd through the 9th in Ghana. Black Yoga teachers and students from the Diaspora and the continent will make history on this journey. It will be the first international yoga conference ever conducted on African soil organized by Africans and African Americans. The conference seeks to support the growth and expansion of yoga as an alternative healing system in the Diaspora.
